Hi Everyone! My husband and I are building a house and we are having an extremely hard time trying to pick the exterior house color. We have narrowed it down to a sage green or a sable brown color. We just cant seem to commit and I am just looking for opinions. I tried to put pictures in to explain the colors. We know that the sage green would be a safe choice but we think the brown could really make an impact. We are just really nervous of making the wrong choice...who wants to drive up to their house everyday and hate the choice they made. Any help/opinion would be great. Thanks.

I love the sage green! Do you know the names of the colors used in the first photo and the brand? If you could let me know I would greatly appreciate it!

Do you know the brand and color name of the sage green color?

pull the combinations of paint colors together. I usually go with their recommendations on body/trim/shutter/door - at the very least for a starting point. Sherwin Williams seems to have more current/younger color combos. Painting good sized trial swatches on the house is very helpful. I would reconsider the bright white trim on a brown house ...a softer trim color would be better.

many sage green houses in every neighborhood, they all sort of blend together. Not that you should make your decision based on me, of course. =]

The brown (love the grey undertones) paired w/ creamy white trim would not only make an impact, I think it's a timeless choice.

I feel your pain, too. We recently had our exterior painted & went w/ a dark grey-green. Everyone thought we were crazy when we sampled the color but we went w/ our instinct. SOOOO happy that we did. So my advice is to buy samples & paint a sample size of a square ft or so on different sides of your house. This helped us b/c depending on how the sun, shade, etx. hit the house, the color could look different.

I'm a design-obsessed Capricorn and I'm sort of a big deal. =)

we built a house last year and the interior was EASY, the exterior was so hard to pick out!!
Have you chosen your roof color, shutter colors, trim color, window colors, etc.? Is the style of the home similar to the pics you posted?
I really like both, but agree that the brown makes more of an impact, but again, it depends (for me) on the roof and shutter colors, etc.

The roof is going to be grayish color. The actual shingle has a lot of different tones in it but when you look at it from afar its mid to dark gray. We are not doing shutters and the trim is going to be bright white. Here is a pic of the exterior of the house right now. I know its dark but its the only one i have where you can see the entire front. we are going to have a front porch on it too.

which did you choose?Joyce Anthony09.25.2011 @ 12:24:21 PM

I know I am 2 years late on this conversation but I am looking at painting my house and LOVE the green! I am curious if you went with that one and if you know what the paint color is called? I am having a hard time figuring out which green would match this shade:) Thx!
